25 Years Of MARS FM

The 25th Anniversary Of MARS FM

The Story Of MARS FM

MARS-FM debuted on May 24th, 1991, following the purchase by Ken Roberts of two stations which broadcast at 103.1 FM. This marked the first time that stations broadcasting on the same frequency had been simulcast in the Greater Los Angeles / Orange County Metropolitan Area.

MARS-FM, the "New Music Invasion", consisted predominately of music not previously heard in Los Angeles and Orange County. MARS-FM blended Alternative, Dance, Rock and Pop to create a fresh, unique music mix. Other Alternative-Rock and Dance-Pop Stations did not break new artists with such regularity. For example, not only was MARS-FM known for Techno, but MARS-FM were the first station to play Nirvana!

MARS-FM filled the hole for listeners looking for a dance station which drew from a Rock Base. MARS-FM was the reflection of a life-style born in the clubs of Western Europe, which exploded in the United States in the late 80s / early 90s.
